We spent pretty much all day today in my favorite place… the mortuary…
Needless to say, I wasn’t super thrilled, but we were able to get our hands on the mortuary freezer’s operating manual and wanted to give it a try. Originally only one out of six of the storage compartments was fully functioning, with another working about half the time. After resetting everything, we were able to get four of the six working again! We were there until after lunch just watching and waiting for the refrigerators to cool. It was a good opportunity for me to catch up on paperwork and inventory list we've been keeping.
Watched mortuary freezers never cool?
We mixed things up for lunch today by going to new nearby restaurant, although I was just slightly disappointed that the food was exactly the same as the other two Kisarawe restaurants we’ve been to. White rice, beans, and boiled greens (Nathan and I also splurged on a small fish each :) ).
After showing the undertaker how to set the freezers properly, we headed to the x-ray machine, which had a cassette stuck inside due to a lodged pin. While we were able to get the cassette out, we weren’t able to fix the machine… we called the technician the hospital has on-call, so hopefully that helps tomorrow. On the brighter side, we did manage to also fix an external generator? To be honest, we have no idea what it does, but it works now!
We also enjoyed some Tanzanian drama TV show today while working on the generator at the study office. Katie and Nathan got pretty interested in the plot, even though they insisted it was just to practice their Swahili!
Tomorrow we are headed to Msimbu Regional Hospital, as long as the weather stays dry enough to travel. I can’t believe I only have two more days in Tanzania.
